'Finding Joy' by Gary Andrews

This was a book that I happened across on Twitter. Gary is an artist who keeps a daily doodle diary which he shared with his wife, family and friends. In 2017, his wife, Joy, died suddenly, from sepsis, leaving Gary a heartbroken widower with two young children. The book is a collection of his doodle diaries from that time, illustrating his shock, love and trauma, plus his gradual healing and adjustment to the huge loss in his life and the life of his family. It is a collection of sparse words and poignant drawings which you cannot fail to be moved by. It offers one man's journey through grief, using drawing, and I was so inspired as a writer and writing for wellbeing practitioner, that I've decided to try keeping a writing doodle diary to see how that works. Watch this space...

Verdict: read
